Lake Charles Dance Academy
At Lake Charles Dance Academy, Owner and Director Colleen Cannon Benoit shares a lifelong love for dance that began at age four. A Lake Charles native, she trained at prestigious programs, such as The School of American Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and Joffrey Ballet, earning scholarships and recognition from renowned artistic directors. In 2011, Colleen founded LCDA with a vision to blend high standards with a nurturing environment, later establishing Lake Area Ballet Theatre, a nonprofit performance company now in its 11th season. Under her leadership, students have performed classical works like The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Alice in Wonderland, as well as innovative contemporary pieces. Named Calcasieu Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year (2005) and recipient of the Citizen of the Arts Award (2018), Colleen remains committed to inspiring dancers of all ages. LCDA offers classes from ballet to hip hop, fostering both technique and a lifelong appreciation for the art of dance.
